2021 BAND MEMBERS

ARIEL BELL
Trumpet
Ariel was born and raised in Tampa, FL. He went on to study music education at Miles College in Birmingham, AL, and has been playing trumpet for 14 years. He currently teaches at Dr. Carter G. Woodson PK-8 School. With the pandemic and his busy teaching schedule, continuing his passion of performance has been difficult. Therefore, he looks forward to playing with USB as a way to return to his love of rehearsing and performing music.

QUORI D. LIGHON
Percussion
Quori has been playing percussion for 8 years and is excited to learn all she can in USB. In 2017, she graduated as a Nursing Assistant, joined the Army, and is now a minister in school for faith-based counseling. In the future, Quori aspires to write, produce, and record her own music with live instruments. She is grateful for the opportunity to play alongside so many talented musicians!

PEDRO HERNANDEZ
Snare Drum
Pedro attends Tampa Bay Technical High School and has been playing percussion for 2 years. Looking forward, he wants to continue performing music in college and is excited for the opportunity to improve his skills and musicianship through USB.

ROY MITCHELL
Trombone & Euphonium
Roy has been playing trombone and euphonium for 10+ years. He studied music education at Albany State University in GA and earned his Masters in music performance at the University of South Florida. He currently teaches music in the Tampa area hopes to continue spreading the joy and gift of music! After this difficult year, he looks forward to making new connections with people and spreading positivity to the community through music.

JOSHUA OJIANWUNA
Bass Drum
Joshua is a junior at Tampa Bay Technical High School and has been playing for 2 years. He is looking forward to growing as a musician and connecting with other likeminded individuals and artists. He hopes to one day play for large audiences and make a name for himself doing what he loves: performing.

DON SCOTT
Trumpet
Don is a native of Tampa, FL and began playing at age ten. He received his musical training from Howard W. Blake High School, Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach, and Florida State University. After serving as Director of Bands at Wildwood Middle School and Fort Pierce High School, Mr. Scott took a few months off from teaching to perform and tour with the Distinguished Men of Brass, featured on America’s Got Talent. Since 2013, Mr. Scott has been the band director at Wakeman Middle School and looks forward to helping build another great band with Desmond Boone.

ABRAHAM TEJEDA
Trumpet
Abraham studied music education at Miles College and is currently a music instructor at Sligh Middle Magnet. He has been looking for an opportunity to perform with a group of musicians again, so he shared with us how great it feels to get back into his craft playing trumpet with USB.

ALEX WALSH
Sousaphone / Tuba
Alex is a freshman at Wesley Chapel High School who is excited for the opportunity to expand his skills on the sousaphone. As a performer, he aspires to build his confidence in any environment and looks forward to improving his sound as a part of USB.
